Social Finance Foundation appoints Sheila Nordon as Chairman as Peter Quinn steps down
Peter Quinn retired as Chairman of the Social Finance Foundation on Wednesday 27th July 2011, having served in the position for over four years. His tenure had been extended one year by the Minister for Finance in 2010. Peter's breadth of experience in many fields was invaluable to the Foundation in its formative years and his contribution on a pro-bono basis was exceptional. During his tenure, loans totalling €33m were approved for both the Community & Voluntary and Micro Finance sectors, with drawings to date of €17.5m.
Sheila Nordon, a current Director of the Foundation and Executive Director of ICTR, a membership organisation for Irish Charities, was appointed as the new Chairman effective 27th July 2011. Sheila is a very experienced professional operating for a significant number of years in the Charities Sector and will guide the Foundation through the next phase of its development.
The Board unanimously welcomed Sheila's appointment, especially with the Foundation's involvement in the areas of Micro Finance and Financial Inclusion. These projects are in addition to its core business of social lending to the third sector in these difficult economic times.
Speaking after her appointment Sheila said "I am really looking forward to the many challenges in the years ahead and my key goal is to 'make a difference' in the sector."
